A Guide for Writers Who Want to Build Community and Sell More Books

Have you ever opened your inbox, clicked on a newsletter, and immediately closed it because it felt cluttered, impersonal, or just plain boring? I hate to admit this, but I do this all the time. I don’t have time to waste reading email or newsletters that aren’t useful to me as a writer. When we look at statistics, I’m not the only one not reading newsletters I subscribed to. The average email open rate across industries is only about 21.5% — which means nearly 80% of emails go unread. Yikes! That’s a whole lot of missed opportunity for those of us who spend hours crafting what we think is the perfect newsletter.

If you’re a writer looking to connect with your readers, your newsletter can’t afford to be mediocre. And you can’t afford to spend valuable writing time on a newsletter no one is reading. I’ve been on a journey to create my dream newsletter, because I don’t want to waste my or my readers’ time. I want them to look forward to my emails. I want both readers and writers to feel excited to see me in their inbox. But how do I do that? In this post, I’m sharing everything I’ve learned (and am still learning!) to help you craft yours because I suspect you might have the same questions and desires for your newsletters.
