How Writers Make Conflict Sound and Feel Believable

My work in progress that is essentially finished minus being seen by an editor has a problem. The conflict between two of my subplot characters just isn’t working. It seems silly. As I re-read the scenes, I find myself shaking my head and not believing that this is a real conflict. And if I don’t believe it, my reader will not believe it.
