What to Wear When You Write

What should you wear when you sit down to write a book? No this is not a joke.

Should you write in pajamas? Jeans and a t-shirt? Wear professional attire like you’re going in the office? Just when I though this was a silly topic to blog about, and did a search on what writers wear, I found that it’s not such a silly question after all and that others have also asked the same question.

Here is an article that actually asked writers what they wear and apparently John Cheever worked in his underwear. Why not?

The why not is the reason I chose to talk about this topic.

The truth, which you probably already know, is that you can wear whatever you want when you write. This is the beauty of being a writer. You don’t have to “dress” for work if you don’t want to.

Why You Should Want to Consider What You Wear

But what I wanted to discuss is the importance of preparing for work. In the article I linked above, various of the authors interviewed stated that they do have favorite writing attire. It helps them write better.

So, getting into the writing state is one reason to choose your clothes carefully.
