For some reason, this year has started slowly for me, and I don’t seem to be getting as much done as I planned. It could be that I released two books, one after the other in 2023 and 2024 and I’m exhausted. Even though a book a year does not sound like a lot when prolific writers sometimes release three or four books a year, when you are independently publishing and doing everything from writing to publishing to marketing, it is a lot.
So, being tired can be one of the reasons that I seem to be dragging. It could also be that winter is slower in general. It’s cold. Not a lot is going on. It’s a struggle to get up and get going. It could be many things. But one thing is for sure, every writer has been there — staring at a blank screen, feeling the weight of exhaustion or the endless to-do list. And wanting to scream, “Not today. I’ll do it tomorrow.”
When life demands so much, finding the energy to write can feel impossible. But the truth is, writing doesn’t always require perfect conditions; it requires persistence, even in small doses. Here’s how to keep writing when you’re too tired or overwhelmed.
